In large, scattered, groups (10-15 or more fruitbodies packed closely together) on a lawn under ornamental cherry tree.
Pileus parabolic when young, expanding to campanulate in age but never fully expanding or uplifting, to 5 cm wide when expanded. Pileus grayish-white or dirty-grayish, covered by a veil when young that soon breaks up into dense, felty patches that are mostly persistent. Veil remnants denser at center and sparse (or absent) at the margin. Veil remnants white with brown tips. Brown veil tips denser and darker at the center of the cap. Pileus margin uneven or undulating (including when young). Stipe to 15 cm long, to 0.5 cm wide, cylindrical, more or less equal and straight, creamy-whitish (with a slight dirty look) , fibrous, hollow, with a white pith adhering to the interior of the hollow stipe, particularly near the base. Stipe often with velar remnants forming a ring zone, with the stipe above the ring zone white and cleaner than the rest of the stipe, with dense white hairs (that often disappear). Gills crowded, free, white at first, but soon gray or brownish-gray and finally black in age, deliquescing. Odor fungal, but mild and not distinctive. Microscopic characteristics: Veil elements filamentous. Spores dark reddish-brown, with a germ pore, ellipsoid to fat ellipsoid. 7.7 x 4.5 µm, 7.1 x 4.7 µm, 7.8 x 5 µm, 6.7 x 4.8 µm
