Densely clustered and gregarious on the ground at the side of a trail in mixed Oak-Hickory woods.
Pileus broadly convex, 3-10 cm wide, inrolled at first, tan brown, conspicuously fibrillose (some overhanging the pileus margin), dry. Veil present in young specimens, off-white, fibrillose, disappearing in age leaving only a ring zone. Gills more or less attached with a knotch (although appearing free upon drying), pale with pinkish tones at first, becoming dark brown. Stipe 3-10 cm long, 5-10mm wide, equal, with an enlarged base, covered with conspicuous vertical brown fibrils (like cap) below, with an off-white ring zone above that is smooth. Spores blackish. Spore print with collection.
