In small groups of two in hard-packed sandy soil in a clearing at the edge of mixed oak/pine woods.

Pileus brown to light-gray brown, the margin lined at maturity. Gills white, crowded, more or less free. Volva saclike, white, splitting with a cleft into 3-5 distinct sections. Stipe white, equal or tapering slightly upward. Flesh white, not changing on exposure to air. Spores elliptical, inamyloid. Spores in microns [10.8, 11.3, 9.9, 9.8, 12.1] x [8.1, 6.1, 6.7, 7.1, 6.3]
