Found under young coast live oak. Spore color identified as white on basis of deposit on leaves under the caps (visible in the foreground of the first and second photos). Gills are separable from the cap as a layer, and large clumps of leaf litter and mycelium were uprooted with the mushroom (both characteristic of Leucopaxillus). Keyed as L. amarus using Mushrooms Demystified; according to more recent sources, L. gentianus is the correct name for L. amarus.
