Growng in deep shade in native podocarp forest. A group of cylinders about 8 cm long completely below ground. Tops of cylinders flush with ground and coloured the same as leaf litter. No caps, no pores, no gills, no swelling or protuberance. Tops circular 3 cms diameter. Cylinders filled with brown cotton-woolly mass. Suggests a puff ball type spore dispersal mechanism. Shape of fungus totally unique. Several groups of these cylinders. Some old cylinders withered with no sign of above ground swelling.
