On a well rotted Western hemlock log. See attached link to multiple dates and stages of monitoring of this sporophore from mid summer 2016 continuing to today. I have performed this process throughout Washington state and always find it fascinating how fast these annual polypores grow. Most all other 'conks' occurring in Washington are perennial and persist for years. Ganoderma oregonense and other members of the Reishi class of Ganoderma appear in early to mid summer as a tiny primordial puff of white pores(marshmallow stage) and quickly develop into red, white and orange banded shelves. At maturity-as seen here they begin to degrade and hollow out after dropping their Fall spores.
