Growing at the base of Dogwood (Cornus) tree, possiby C. nuttallii in a concrete planter near staircases on the South side of the Earth and Marine Sciences (EMS) Building.
Flesh white, negative in KOH.
Flesh and pore surface staining pinkish when cut or bruised, becoming reddish brown later.
Fresh growing edge with a pinkish-reddish band when moist (not visible here).
Hymenium mostly poroid, but also lamellate to somewhat dentate, walls relatively thin and close.
Texture leathery, but pliable and compressible like fresh Turkey Tails, although thicker.
Surface very soft and very finely velutinous (not visible without hand lens).
Capitate hyphal ends in hymenium present.
Dimitic hyphal system? – Skeletal hyphae definitely present.
Spores long-ellipsoid, with very indistinct but visible apiculus. 5.7 × 3.8 microns. Q=1.5. I think this rules out Dadaeleopsis, which is where I would have placed it.
Taste mild, odor like fresh turkey tails (fungal).
