Found in poor sandy soil-along with Matsutake and many other members of Tricholoma that prefer similar soil habitats. Ironically, this species and T. magnivelare/T.murrilianum fruit in both poor montane soils and sandy habitats parallel to the coastlines of the PNW. Approximately 3000ft for this collection beneath Douglas fir, Western hemlock and Western red cedars.
