On Quercus alba. This is a second observation of the same fungus showing a different stage than in the post at http://mushroomobserver.org/231456. The earlier observation was of one log section (Log Section 1) from two dates: 2015-04-03 and 2016-02-16. I went back with two friends on 2016-02-21 and photographed more of the Log Section 1 as well the adjacent section from the same tree (Log Section 2) in which the fungus was at a different stage than Log Section 1.
Log Section 1: Pore surface reddish-brown and not bruising, even the pore surfaces that were soft to the touch (not hardened by exposure to outside environment). Pore surface extended the length of the 2 m log, and wrapped under the log approximately 75 cm wide. The pore surface was reddish brown on 2015-04-03 as well as currently.
Log Section 2: Pore surface whitish and readily bruising. Detail photos included of raised pore sections (3 cm) that contact the woody surface below the pore surface. The raised pore sections contact the woody surface below — they may function like “spacers.”
