Growing on the underside of a very old Ganoderma-type conk on an old oak stump. The bottom of the old conk was in the leaf litter. Coniopora (wet rot) also has the white margin, but it seems to have more of an amorphous bumpy surface, instead of the more regular angular surface of Serpula. S lacrymans is usually found in buildings, S. himantiodes is a wild form.
