These are sugar pine cones, the real big ones, and a few of the good scales chosen for the tiny mushrooms. These are fairly common, but I believe only discovered about seven years ago. Before then no one really tried to look. The caps are -very- small, a 2-3 mm cap is a large one. Under a glass you can see they have gills under those tiny, tiny caps.
