Under oak trees Phlegmacium type with edged bulb. Cap ochre with darker fibrils near the edge, dark brown with ammonia. Up to 5cm diameter. Gills violet, stem violet above. Veil remnants ochraceous in ring and also on edge of bulb. Taste bitter. Sharp fruity smell on scraping flesh, may be of mirabelle plums. Gill edges smooth, not denticulate. Spores measured as 8x4.5µ
