The tallest one of these was only about 6mm high. The "cap" was sort of leaf-like. Didn't have a clue of where to start until I ran across a picture in the Bessette book; Mushrooms of the Southeastern United States (p. 75). Definitely a match. Seems that these little "fellas" are the asexual reproductive stage of a Xylaria(Xylaria cubenis). The dried material pretty much retained the original shape and just got slightly more pinkish in color. Found in the Big Sandy Creek Unit of the Big Thicket.
