Collected in a clear cellophane bag marked "Product of Korea", so am guessing it was imported. Base of some mushrooms show a sawdust/bran mixture that it was growing out of, and Stamets notes it grows readily on an alder/bran sawdust combination, similar to Lentinula edodes, Pleurotus ostreatus, and a host of other lignicolous mushrooms. I have dried the caps for potential spore use later, and have sliced and diced the stipes (what huge stipes!) for later consumption. This species likes warmer temperatures to fruit (60-70 degrees, 85-90% humidity for 4-8 days to iniate fruiting). Apparently commercial grown in Europe as well as Asia, and the aroma was very nice. This bag of 14 oz. cost me US$3.99, so perhaps $4.50/lb. I'm looking forward to eating it!
