This large agaricus was found growing in redwood duff, close to tan oak and madrone trees. When young, gills are pink, turning brown in age. Sporeprint is chocolate brown with a hint of purple. When rubbed, both stalk and cap turn yellow. Cap shaggy, convex, with more brown in middle, becoming uplifted with age. No volva. Has maggots. No strong smell. Has a prominent ring.
