If the ID checks out, this is my first time finding this "unkempt", somber looking Tylopilus species. It's been raining cats and dogs in NJ and eastern PA in the last couple of days, so these mushrooms endured quite a beating from the weather as judged by cracked cap and washed out, uneven pileus colors, though overall they held up nicely to the elements. The older basidiocarp's pileus measures about 5" in diameter and has a short and impressively thick stipe. The pore surface in both specimens is grayish in color. Growing on a grass with an old oak, younger hardwoods and a pine tree in the immediate vicinity.
