A single specimen growing in grassy moist soil in a close proximity to a row of Norway spruces. The nearest oak (one of several planted in the early 1930's) was ~15 yards away; a birch tree was ~10 yards away. In my experience it's highly unusual to find hardwood-loving boletes so late in NJ as deciduous trees should no longer support fungal growth due to season changes. Thus it's possible that this bolete was growing in association with the spruces.
