Among the most commonly encountered of Neotropical fungi, occurring on both woody substrates and terrestrially, in rosettes of dozens to hundreds of fans or growing singly, lateral or upright and centrally stipitate. Always with some degree of yellow coloring, unless, of course, it has been bleached by age, wet or dry. Reid lists C. aurantiaca var. alba, as well as two additional forms of same, to accommodate all white variations, though as this reference celebrates its 50th birthday this year, such names may have since been subject to synonymization. C. spectabilis is a synonym.
