Growing in pine-oak woods. It's not a very common species, but we find it a few times a year in the fall. KOH stains the pellicle dingy purple-magenta. Given the discovery of a similarly-looking, bluing Suillus sp. from Brendan Byrne S.F. with similar KOH reaction on cap (obs 257442 and obs 257499), I should have sectioned the cap of this specimen before drying.
