A cluster of three young/immature but sizable fruiting bodies growing in an oak grove. A single specimen was collected and preserved. There was some superficial bluing on the stipe due to handling, but neither the pores nor the yellow flesh both in stipe and cap blued. The stipe flesh was an alternating streaky scheme of darker & lighter shades of yellow, whereas the cap flesh of homogeneously/solid yellow and paler. The tube layer was only 1 mm thick, while the cap flesh was 1.5 cm thick in the middle. The odor of the intact mushroom was slightly earthy/pungent, but not unpleasant, and the odor of the cut flesh was fungal/mushroomy. Chemical Tests (performed 7-8 hrs post collection): KOH = bright rusty brown to orangish-brown on cap cuticle, light pinkish-orange on cap flesh; NH4OH = dingy amber to mustard yellow on cap cuticle, negative on cap flesh. The chemical tests on the pileipellis are inconsistent with BRB.
