Have only seen this species twice in the past - both times fruiting on a tree trunk above the ground out of reach. This find was made with the specimen standing erect in a hollowed out decaying log on the ground in bottomland woods. Got to see it up close and personal. Kuo describes the spore color as pink, see my photo of a spore print that I might call terra cotta. Species a sac-like volva. The cap was about 5 cm. in height and 5 cm. across. Of course, this had not opened fully. Stipe was about 6 cm. including the part in the volva.
