A few fruitbodies growing in sandy soil on the edge of an asphalted roadway at the intersection of two alleys SE of the main pond. Nearby trees include eastern white pine, hard pine (possibly red pine) and oak. The following observed features are consistent with this taxon, and differentiate it from the two look-alikes, L. chelidonium var. chelidonium and L. paradoxus: a funky "morel odor" of the crushed or cut flesh, a slightly acrid/astringent taste becoming apparent after 1-2 min, the azure-blue staining of the flesh only directly below the cuticle. The latex of this collection was scant, but visibly "grasshopper-spit" brown (as per Peck's original description). The injured gills eventually bruised avocado-green to forest-green.
