Growing in moss at the base of a Quercus alba near Carya ovata, Fagus grandifolia and Acer saccharum. Odor indistinct. Taste acrid but not strongly so. Cap cuticles peelable to ~75% of the way to the center. Stems bruising gray slowly. FeSO4 brownish on stem 4 days after picking.
