It is on granitic blocks in semi-shadow of pine-tree forest. The colour is from light grey â" light brownish-grey. These oval spots are mainly 8-15cm length (up to 30 cm) and usually without clear concentric zonality. Apothecia colours are light reddish-brown, light brown - brown, brownish-grey up to brown-black (the bigger and the older they are darker; the more sun, the less red-brown). They are unevenly (irregular) distributed within the thallus of a lichen. Apothecia are often crowded (when adult) and sometimes funnel-shaped. NaClO 5-8% test makes yellow colouring of apothecia turned in 4 min into dirty yellowish-green and dirty brownish-yellow. KOH 20% tests: K+ greenish-yellow colouring turned into yellowish-green or dirty green and apothecia became more yellow then originally).
