Habitat: mixed deciduous woods and rhododendron in sandy soil. Cap: diameter = 49 mm. Dry. Cream colored with many flat, reddish-brown, fibrillose warts. Margin striate for 5 mm. Gills: crowded, free, cream-colored. Short gills mainly attenuate. Gill edges ornamented with white tufts that bruise reddish brown. Maximum gill depth 5 mm near outer margin. Stipe: length 68 mm. Flared at apex, 5 mm diameter in upper portion, 8 mm at volva. Cream colored, staining reddish brown with brown fibrils in upper half. No partial veil. Hollow, interior shows chunks of material. Flesh: tough for an Amanita. Pretty much everything bruises brown. Volva: saccate, two unequal lobes, fairly substantial. Height 28 mm, diameter 15 mm, free limb to 23 mm. Spores: deposit white. Smell: none
