Growing from ground next to very old stump of long-dead street tree, so on decaying roots of a hardwood probably either oak or maple (nonnative). In parking strip of Capitol Way, conks encompass grasses and weeds. Caps dark reddish brown, pores nearly white, stain brown. Large rolled white margin grows over cap. Conks semi circular, soft, and attached laterally.
