Open area near oaks. Taste mild. Odor like other R. mariae, a rather distinctive difficult to describe odor. (Mushroom Expert calls the odor "oily".) Spores subglobose to globose, 7-9 x 6-8. Spines forming a partial reticulatum, some exceeding 1 micron.
