Etym.: The name refers to the colour of the endoperidium.
This species has almost the same features as T. pulchellum Sacc., of which it might be considered a variety were it not for the somewhat different spores, that have a thick episporium and rather conspicuous verrucae under L.M. However, upon examination under SEM, the ornamentation appears as even, hemispheric verrucae, very closely packed and many arranged in helicoidal manner, forming striae, much like in T. striatum Cunningh. in which the striae are not formed by verrucae. In many collections small pseudomycosclereids appear on the endoperidium.
