Growing on wood.
Taste tardily but distinctly peppery and acrid. color pale, watery reddish brown, dull luster; no distinctive stem but branching from an irregular mass of the fleshy substance and mycelium; the smooth branches divide several times, grow upright in and in blunt awl-shaped tips or shorter, sharper points, two to four to a branch . context pale all pinkish, becoming a little darker on being caught; somewhat off; no special odor. where my digging knife rested against the branches they turned a purplish gray. I have no drawing of this.
