Solitary in humus in mixed hardwoods.
Pileus near buffy brown on disc, near olive buff to deep olive buff with scattered pale och. stains. Tubes 1.5 cm long, mouths pallid, staining clay color to near chamois when bruised. Flesh of pileus white, unchanging but assuming pinkish stains, more noticeable in apex of stipe. Base of stipe unchanging. FeSO4 blue. U. I.[Universal Indicator] bright red on pileus, yellow in stipe, orange-yellow at base of stipe. Surface of stipe with white background; scales small in apex, becoming scattered and somewhat raised and larger toward the base, brown to dark brown.
