Scattered or in small groups, on the ground in rich soil and leaf litter of maple, walnut, and honeysuckle and among weeds (including mustard lettuce). The same mushrooms also fruited in this location in May 2013 (no collection was made at that time)
Cap ~2 cm wide when expanded, at first ellipsoid then expanding to campanulate to convex, margin undulating. Pileus covered at first with a somewhat thick felt-like veil that soon breaks up leaving felty-patches. Felty-patches more dense at center, sparse at the margin. Pileus color dingy-whitish or grayish-white at first towards the margin, becoming buff to brownish toward the center, darkening somewhat in age (particularly at the center). Pileus striate, almost all the way to center of the cap. Pileus flesh somewhat pliant. Gills close, free, black in maturity and deliquescing (although some specimens found that had dried in-situ and had not fully deliquesced).Stipe to 7 cm long, finely pubescent, more or less equal, whitish or creamy-white. Stem pliant when fresh, finely longitudinally striate and slightly twisted, with a lustrous, metallic sheen when dried. Odor mild, not distinctive. Microscopic characteristics: spores black, 11-15 um x 6-8 um, ellipsoid, with an eccentric germ pore.
