Growing singly on the ground in mixed woods (among conifer and hardwood duff)
Pileus convex at first but becoming flat in age, grayish-white with small blackish-brown scales which are more dense towards the center of the cap but scant towards the margin, dry. Gills free, crowded, pink at first but becoming brown. Stem base slightly swollen, base turning instantly yellow when cut. Partial veil present, which was at first covering the pink gills, later collapsing and separating as the gills matures to brown. Veil persistent. When young and still attached, the fresh veil had a few yellowish liquid drops on the underside.
