Growing clustered to cespitose in large groups and troops directly on wood chip mulch along the side of a trail.
Pileus to 4 cm in diameter, hygrophanous, brown to tan brown, evenly colored or lighter towards the margin, translucent striate in age. Some specimens show whitish flecks toward the center of the cap. Slightly convex to plane when young, often uplifted in age. Gills colored like cap or slightly lighter tan when young, adnate to subdecurrent, close. Partial veil present but evanescent. Veil whitish, not leaving an annulus. Stipe fibrillose, hollow, to 5 cm long, colored like cap, equal or slightly enlarged below. Base covered with downy white mycelium near attachment to substrate. Flesh dull brown. Odor not distinctive. Spore print pale orangish-brown. Microscopic characteristics: Cheilocystidia present. Spores elliptic, inamyloid. Spores 6-8 x 3.5-5 µ
