Clustered at the base of a standing,but dead, elm (Ulmus sp.)
Fruiting body:  Clustered or singular, black, irregularly shaped vertical clubs. 3-10 cm long, 4-12 mm wide, black to black-gray or black-brown, finger-like, irregularly clavate or lumpy, tapering toward a shared base,  with a rounded, nipple-like tip at the ends. Minutely rough and scurfy or slightly powdery. Flesh:  Bright white inside. Tough, but a little bit pliant, breaking in a chalky manner. Odor fungoid, not distinctive. Spore print: Not obtainable
