In low loblolly pine woods adjacent to baygall communities, in deep leaf litter
PILEUS 6-6.5 cm broad, conic becoming plano-convex, dry, covered with appressed fibrillose material with pits, scales colored 10YR 8/6 (near Pale Orange Yellow) to 2.5Y 8.5/6, 8/6 (Maize Yellow to Buff Yellow) some 2.5Y 5/6 (Orange Citrine), tint of 7.5R 8/4 (Shrimp Pink), older more 5Y 8.5/4 (Cream Buff), to 7.5YR 7/6 (near Cinnamon Buff) sterile margin 5 mm; CONTEXT 8 mm thick, odor mild, taste mild with slight biting , colored white, unchanging; TUBES depressed, 10-12 mm long, 1/mm, not stuffed, colored whitish, soon grayish pink; STIPE 7-8.5cm long, 7-11 mm broad, equal to tapered to apex, dry, glabrous, with some longitudinally striate lines, solid, colored 2.5YR 4/6 (near Kaiser Brown) to 2.5YR 6/6 (Onion Skin Pink) to 2.5YR 6/4 (Vinaceous Fawn) bruising 5Y8.5/6 to 8.5/10 (Baryta Yellow to near Lemon Chrome), white mycelium at base; SPORES light yellowish, subfusoid, 14-16 x 4.2-5 µm; CYSTIDIA not studied; CUTICLE more or less radially arranged, somewhat parallel, broad hyphae, not well formed; CHEMICAL TESTS 5% KOH cuticle little reaction; conc. ammonia cuticle-darkens scales.
