Usnea intermedia (A. Massal.) Jatta
Parmeliaceae
tom_carlberg (2015-02-18T05:59:41Z)
The genus is easy if you think of "hairy spaghetti", or if you do the pull test. Grab a strand between thumb & forefinger, and gently pull apart. The outer layers will crack away, revealing an elastic central cord. Works better when damp. After that, the only species in the genus in California that has those large-ish yellow-green disks is U. intermedia.
