Several of these dessicated mushrooms were found in the arid, sandy flats of the Alabama Hills. Theye wre identified by the presence of a volva at the base of a long, striated stipe, black gills attached to the margin of the cap remnant. When handled the cap collapsed into a mess of black powder and dry, paper-like gills.
