Order: Agaricales Family: Lepiotaceae Genus: Macrolepiota Species: M. procera gills on hymenium cap is umbonate with the little bump in the center of the mature cap & brown scales on light flesh (unlike amanita's light on dark) hymenium is free stipe has a ring spore print is white ecology is saprotrophic (lives off dead organic matter) edibility: choice Undesirable Look Alikes: Chlorophyllum rhacodes (shaggy parasol), BRUSES RED, NO SNAKESKIN STEM Chlorophyllum molybdites most common for poisoning: gills on hymenium cap is flat hymenium is free stipe has a ring & NO SNAKESKIN PATTERN spore print is green ecology is saprotrophic edibility: poisonous bruise red growth: groups vs singly
