The Common Earthball (Scleroderma citrinum) is a basidiomycete puffball. It is widely found in mossy areas under conifers and hard woods since it is mycorrhizal. It has a light tannish-brown outer shell which is hard and covered in warts. When mature, it cracks open to reveal very dark basidiospores.
