Original observation #4676853 (iNaturalist)

These grow mostly in cow fields. Often the presence of Acacia means that temperatures are high enough to support this species. This place was right at the beginning of the season – they were found only under trees in cover. In another week they will move out into the open, and the season lasts about three weeks before moving up to another location at higher elevation.

There are usually a lot of chiggers in areas that have this species, so bug spray around the ankles is a real good idea.
