The olive-green tones of the young cap point to the much more common S. pungens. S. quiescens really has an evenly dull brown cap without the bright orangey tones developing as seen here, nor with the green/gray/white tones (or mottled mixes thereof) seen in S. pungens.

These individuals were growing under a mix of Bay Laurels, oaks, and Bishop Pines. They were identified by their exceptionally viscid, tan caps,the glandular dots on their stipes, and that they did not quickly change color when handled.
