In grass near mixed pines and fruit trees. This species has similar deep-nearly hypogeous fruiting habits of A. bitorquis but loves to fruit near well winter salted trails and stains vibrantly red when cut. See attached images for scale and red staining once brought home for the table. Monitored this species for two seasons here at the Yakima Arboretum.
