Colonial on track. Growing amongst gravel overlying clay (waterlogged at time of visit but would usually be rock hard) with sparse tufts of Microlaena stipoides. Fruiting bodies coarsely textured, distinctly coriaceous. Stipe wiry, greyish with dark brown-black deciduous scales. Pileus more or less flat red-brown to greyish, rugose, gills, greyish brown.
