Habitat: Growing from ground in mixed hardwood and conifer woods. Tree species in area of collection included Quercus species, American beech (Fagus grandifolia), sugar maple (Acer saccharum), tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera), white pine (Pinus strobus) and red pine (Pinus resinosa)
