Mixed conifers; White Fir, Douglas-fir, Ponderosa Pine, with scattered Black Oak and incense-cedar.
Soil.
Cap 77-111 mm across, orange scales and appressed fibrils over a paler base color, Stipe 95-103 mm long, 33-38 mm thick at top, tapering to a rounded base, 122-134 mm high overall. Stipe solid, vinaceous gray stains on ext., flesh whitish. Taste mild, odor indistinct.
Scattered under White Fir and Douglas-fir.
