A sequence of this indicates it is Morganella compacta (and is on wood), and not L. scabrum. It also indicates Morganella is the correct generic name, not Lycoperdon or Apioperdon (i.e. not related to Morganella/Apioperdon pyriforme). This was a useful collection. Unfortunately the black scales don't separate this from L. scabrum, and neither does occurrence on wood.

Juvenile puffballs up to 23 mm across growing on very rotten wood in broadleaf-podocarp forest. Fruiting bodies covered in small black spines about 1 mm in length. Internal tissue white.
