Ooops, I have misled you. I found this same mushroom this weekend and thought it was a Gyroporus because of the yellow spores. I just found this forum thread and it appears that I was wrong. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15886932

Ooohhh! who lives in the wood on a rot log! No... Okay... well this thing did kind of like something that sponge like. This was not Spongebob this was just a weird sponge like fungus. This thing was pretty smooth looking on the top and was pretty short to and stayed close to the stump. There was a lot of this bright yellow fungus. This was there was a fallen section that I took to get the underside and it just looked more like a wet natural bath sponge. It was by far one of the weirdest fungus I have seen in all my adventures. The Stinkhorns still take the first place on the weird stuff-o-meter. The part that fell was large almost about the size of my hand or larger. It was kind of cool. It was pretty humid and just perfect for fungus. I got a little bit of everything on this trip.
