Growing scattered and partially buried in needle litter under Picea sp. (P. engelmannii or P. pungens) along the trail. Fruiting bodies stout. Older caps orange to yellow, some with whitish blooms. Some younger caps with a pinkish bloom. Gill folds bright orange. Stems lighter orange, some with a slightly greenish tint. Odor very strong and apricot-like. Taste pleasant and like other chanterelles.
The specimens collected were part of a larger patch. I found a much larger patch of presumably the same species along the Rincon La Osa Trail on August 15th. Photos taken 5 days after collection. The temperature was cool enough that they did not rot or change appearance significantly.
