Description: Original observation #11650121 (iNaturalist)
Occurrence Remarks: Calvatia booniana Western Giant Puffball Pp 447, Mushrooms of California; Desjardin, Wood, and Stevens Globose; 180 mm tall x 180 mm wide Warts; typ < 10 mm tall, pale grey centers. Warts start about halfway up the body, developing from brownish, appressed scales. Gleba; white, soft, like a slightly over-mature Boletus species. Habitat; mowed roadside, short grass. In numbers in nearby pasture. Flavor: light, faintly like a small trout. I.e. a great vehicle for salt, butter, and a bit of garlic. Also: It has been a while since our last significant rain. Our season is advancing. There were no A. muscaria sighted in the woods lately. US Hwy 1, MP 55.50
