A troop growing at the base of a liquid amber tree in a maintained lawn. Cap- dry, soft felt-like surface with appressed brown scales, and strongly enrolled margin. Veil- thin, flared up, and some had veil partially attached to cap margin. Stipe- short, tapered toward base. Odor- very mushroomy. Flesh and stipe quickly turned bright red when sliced and fades away in time. Characteristics appear to match A. campestris group except for the red reaction.
